The current COVID-19 situation has created a massive impact on our society, and in particular the way we socialise and congregate. As a family owned and run events company that specialise in small events, we had hoped that with the easing restrictions that we may have been able to run the Queensland Half Marathon with a small, capped field of athletes. However, with the event date falling inside the Level 2 restrictions we are unable to proceed on this date.
We had applied for a possible new date in July, but the current Public Health Emergency remains in place until August 17. Even if we move the date forward to the Level 3 restrictions we have been advised that we would be limited to 100 people in total for the event including athletes, marshals and event staff. For an event of this type, this is not a viable option as we are unwilling to compromise safety by reducing event crew and volunteers. With many other events already postponed until September/October and a very full event calendar we have decided to cancel the 2020 edition of the event.
We are gutted that we are unable to run this year, but we hope to see you back in June 2021.
Yours in running,
Owner/Race Director, Race Promotions.
